50rds – 40 S&W Federal Syntech Defense 175gr. SHP Ammo Details
Are you currently practicing the trombone? Then please put the instrument aside for a couple of minutes and focus all of your attention on this exquisitely well-made 40 S&W personal defense ammunition.
Federal originally developed Syntech (the polymer coating which makes this round’s bullet blue) for target shooting applications. Metallic fouling of the bore? Syntech snips it clean out of the equation. Friction which dulls rifling? Syntech greatly reduces it. Lead gas? Syntech prevents the bullet from emitting it altogether. And when you factor in this ammo’s Catalyst primers, which are lead-free, you begin to see why Syntech ammo is among the cleanest-shooting on earth.
But this cartridge’s bullet isn’t designed for target shooting. It is designed for defensive shooting, and it takes a somewhat novel approach to terminal ballistics. Instead of remaining in one piece as it widens out, it reduces itself to four separate chunks. The three smaller pieces each go off in their own separate directions, tracking 6” or longer injuries through the threat in the process. The larger core has the mass it needs to bore as deeply as 18” into the threat! (Penetration data per FBI test protocol; applicable to bare and heavily clothed ballistic gelatin.)
